It seems slightly counter intuitive and I wished it had been made clearer in the manual.Īm I the only person this doesn't seem obvious to - I seem to be losing my touch at learning new apps! I wasn't expecting the process of burning your master CD in Wavelab would also include the "export" feature.
In my mind rendering a file "mixing down a file" or "bouncing to disk" is one type of obvious process where clearly all your edits and plugins become part of the resulting file - where as burning a CD is a process of literally burning files to an optical disk.
#WAVELAB 7 ELEMENTS TUTORIAL MANUAL#
Whilst it's great to get a straight forward definitive answer, I was left feeling a bit dumb! I really can't find anywhere in the manual where this is clearly stated. PG said that burning a CD included rendering all the plugins at the same time. I asked the question on the Stienberg/Wavelab forum and immediately received an answer from the developer himself (PG). One thing I did find confusing is whether instructing W7 to make a "master CD" automatically rendered all the plugins you are using in the audio montage window.
Like I said though, you can't do it "wrong".as long as you follow the rules for dithering that everybody else has to follow, and you made it clear in your post that you yourself understand those rules Generally speaking, the AudioFile workspace is for working with individual tracks at their original sample rate and bit depth, and the AudioMontage workspace is for assembling and then working with multiple ually being prepared to burn a CD, export a DDP, etc.dithering down to whatever your intended file is to be used for. There are no rules, so you can't do it "wrong".although my note above indicates the generally intended workflow of the software. You would then do your assembly/fade/levels/dither work in the AudioMontage workspace, usually importing your 24/96 files as 24/96 files (for example). The AudioMontage section is a non-destructive editing workspace (hit "save" ,save a version).īecause not every track requires the same plug-ins, you normally would do your plug-in work in the AudioFile workspace of Wavelab, and do it one song at a time.īecause you'll be level adjusting, setting fades, etc in the AudioMontage workspace, you normally don't add dither in the AudioFile window. The AudioFile section of Wavelab is a destructive editing workspace (hit "save" and it's gone for good).
#WAVELAB 7 ELEMENTS TUTORIAL HOW TO#
I understand each individual element, just not how to approach the audio montage part of the process.Īny help or guidance would be hugely appreciated. I'm afraid I just can't seem to figure out the correct work flow for using Wavelab 7, my mastering plugins and the Audio Montage window to create a final master perfectly mastered, levelled with 16 bit dither, burnt to a CD. This seems a bit crazy - but if I put the plugins in the master section then every track will get the same FX applied which is obviously not what I want. So for example each track will have a Sonoris Mastering Compressor TC MD3 EQ and TC Brickwall limiter inserted (I'll need 11x each as I have 11 tracks in my album) I'm confused, even after reading the W7 manual!Īm I supposed to import all my track into the Audio Montage and then add my plugins to each separate clip instead of the master section. The Wavelab manual doesn't at all make it clear if burning a CD renders all any plugins during this process automatically OR if you need to render any plugins like dither first and then create your CD! The only part that confuses here, is after I have individually mastered each track obviously once imported into the audio montage, I will want to correct the levels between different tracks, but I thought any changes to the audio should be done before dither is added.Ĭan I master all my tracks individually, but leave off the dither) THEN import them into the audio montage, make any changes to levels between tracks and stick a single dither plugin into the master section of the audio montage?
Do I master each track of my new album SEPARATELY adding in dither and rendering to a new file and then import all these files into an audio montage and then add the track markers and burn a master CD?
